Giving Tuesday - 3 Quick Ways You Can Give Back AND Set a World Record
Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year and not just because my birthday falls around this time. What makes me love this particular holiday season so much is that there is a concentrated focus on thankkfulness, community and giving back.
Here's how I see the extended weekend:
Thursday - Thanksgiving
Friday - Black Frirday
Monday- Cyber Monday
Saturday - Small Business Saturday
Tuesday - Giving Tuesday
I love that we've bookended two extremely commerical faux holidays with some serious Thankfulness and community giving.
What is Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday was founded just a couple of years ago, its a global day for giving back. On December 1, people all over the world will come together to give back to their community, it can be via a donation or via action or via awareness.
1. Volunteer your time, you can go to https://www.volunteermatch.org/ to find organizations who need volunteers.
2. Donate money - Here are some organizations I've given time and money to in the past: Black Girls Smile and RedCross. But find our own inspiration. You can donate to a cause you love directly with Paypal. They set up a great system. All you have to do is pick your organization! Also Paypal will match 1% of your gift and this is an official try for the Guinness Book of World Records for the most money raised online for charity.
3. Particpate in the conversation - Social Media will be inudated with #GivingTuesday, follow and share your voice. partipcate in Facebook or Twitter Chats (follow @giveTues) and learn how you can give back year round. Giving Tuesday is also active on Instagram and Snapchat so share pics on how you're giving!
